It's SPRING!!! We (meaning mostly me) spent the past 2 days digging up the old beds, expanding them, adding in the compost, buying lumber and various "supplies," building structures, and planting the starts.
We have a huge front and side yard and it's fenced off from the back so the garden is safe from the kids and dog. If I had my way, I would tear out ALL the grass in front and plant away... but I don't think the actual homeowner would appreciate that. Heck, he might not appreciate this... but the leasing company said we could put in a garden :)
I know this looks like over-kill... but soon, I'll add more mesh to the 8' x 8' trellis and have oodles of cucumbers, melons, and beans covering it all... and the short square is perfect for covering (for now) and will let me put in quick and easy tomato supports as needed too.... or whatever else I want to plant.
PS - that's my workshop way out back. Love my workshop.
On the window sill we've started more melons (my kids consume melons at alarming rates) and more herbs. I'll be planting the corn & squashes soon too. And the strawberries - can't forget the strawberries!! Towers next the blueberries by next week!
Yum, yum, yum.
