You know the saying, "If you can't beat them, Join them." I'm in the middle of a war to keep the home office space safe from the grubby sticky ones and the supreme destroyers of the home - aka My Kids.
Yes, I love the little darlings... but not around the computer, printer, files, bills to be paid, sharpies, pens, my precious books, and a zillion cords, various tools and keepsakes.
They write on everything (including themselves) no matter where I hide the pens. They continually turn off the computer when I'm in the middle of a project. They tear apart mommy's books. They move everything about... never to be found again. They shove random objects in to anything that has an opening...
I have a gate. A wonderful expensive gate. The problem? The kids are getting older, and smarter, and stronger. Even the babe, now nearly 2, can muscle the gate open - brute force.
I can't win.
Resistance is futile.
I need help. I need ideas. I need to make a functional space that is also mostly child proof (keeping in mind that my kids are master climbers and will do dangerous things to get to what they want).
I did what I always do. I turned to the internet. A quick Google search should get the gears turning, right? If you search for "Child Proof Home Office" you will find a zillion pictures of the same damn gate we have across the wide hall/doorway to the office. Nice. Thanks so much Google.
So my prized mid-century modern chair will need to go upstairs where kids can't destroy it... the computer tower needs to go up (way up) on the shelving rack where kids can't touch the pretty buttons... and shelving. Shelving will be the answer. Shelving for everything. Thankfully, I make shelving. Time to get to work... cause I give up.
I drink obscene amounts of tea and build things. Thank you.
