Our "new to us" house has a decent sized patio out back. It's the only flat spot on the property and just big enough to fit the kids' 12' round pool. The problem? It's not a pretty space. There was a sad brown privacy fence (keeping the space private from who knows since it's already really private back there) with ivy stencils on it... and overgrown bushes.
Thankfully, I own a shovel, a rake, and a paint brush, and I'm not afraid to use them.
The bushes are gone! The fence is now blue!! I relocated random pavers from other parts of the yard (yes, we have ample random pavers all over the place). I scrubbed down the turquoise bench I made a few years ago (unpainted version available here) and it still looks pretty darn good, even after being outside for a few years.
Now, to add some flower pots and the pool. I'm thinking mint or lavender... herbs are beautiful and help keep the bugs away. What would you plant?
PS - I do not recommend painting projects with a 3 year old and 4 year old. Although it turned out fabulous, it was not smooth sailing.
A work in progress
